Welcome back to a new school year; we have told our staff and children that this is going to be the best year yet at EBPS and we are very excited for the opportunities which lie ahead.

After a couple of delays in August, our five new classrooms which make up the link corridor between the former infant and junior school buildings were finally handed over to the school. The construction company handed us an empty shell of a building; our wonderful staff have transformed it into five fabulous learning environments which are already filling up with children’s learning and personalities. Unfortunately, the outdoor area for EYFS had to be delayed too but we are excited for the installation of this in October half-term. When everything is completed, we will have our official opening ceremony.

It has been a joy to watch our newest Reception children confidently enter their new classrooms and begin their educational journey with us. We have 60 children in Reception and they have all settled in brilliantly to school life and school routines.

We have set the children the challenge of coming up with three inspirational and creative names for the three parts of our primary school… we hope to announce the chosen names in next month’s edition of Barton Today.

New intake events for starting Reception in September 2026

We have set the dates and times for those who wish to come and tour our school for children to start with us in Reception in September 2026. Details of how to book can be found on our website and places need to be booked via Eventbrite. The open day events consist of a brief talk by us as co-headteachers, then a tour of the entire school led by our wonderful Year Six tour guides. The child who the place is for is very welcome to come too!

Empowerment Approach

We enter our third academic year of following the Empowerment Approach to support children with understanding their brain, their behaviour and their emotions. We follow a coaching model to help support children to learn strategies to help them overcome difficulties in a pro-social and pro-learning way. We have seen some real successes with this over the past two years and hope this will continue!

Smart-Phone Free School

We have been researching the impact of smart phone use on young children very carefully and following the work of the Smartphone Free Childhood campaign. I am delighted to report that we changed our policy on this last year and now no children in EBPS bring a smartphone to school! We are one of the first primary schools in this area to be a Smartphone Free certified school but we have a feeling many more schools will follow as we all begin to realise the dangers of unlimited, unmonitored smartphone use on young children’s brains, bodies, development, social skills, learning, self-esteem etc.
