Y4 Anglo-Saxon day
Description
Dear Parent/Carer
On Friday 10th January, Year 4 will be taking part in an Anglo-Saxon day as part of their ongoing history topic. The all-day event will include trying on Anglo Saxon clothing, playing Anglo-Saxon games, grinding corn using a quern stone, striking an Anglo-Saxon coin, handling artefacts, learning about weapons used in warfare, writing names in runes, and more.
To make this event possible, we are asking for a voluntary contribution of £6 towards the cost which is payable via your ParentMail app. Without these donations, we may not be able to go ahead with the event. Unfortunately, we do not have the resources or historical expertise in school to manage this event without the assistance of an external company which costs the school £350.
We would like the children to be immersed into Anglo-Saxon Briton by wearing a simple costume during the day; school trousers or leggings with a plain t-shirt (pattered/logo t-shirts turning inside out if you don’t have a plain one) tied with a belt or piece of rope. There is no expectation that outfits should be bought. (Costumes are optional).
The picture attached is just to give you a guide.
Thank you for your support,
Miss Bartholomew, Miss Lawton and Mrs Warren
