Head's Update May 2026

As we move further into the Summer term, school continues to be incredibly busy with a wide range of opportunities and experiences for our children both within and beyond the classroom. At Earls Barton Primary School, we strongly believe that some of the most memorable learning takes place when children are given the chance to experience the wider world first hand, helping to bring their curriculum learning to life and broaden their horizons.

Learning Beyond the Classroom

This term, several year groups have enjoyed exciting educational visits and residential experiences. Year Five visited the Oxford University Museum of Natural History and the Pitt Rivers Museum, where the children were able to explore a fascinating range of historical artefacts and exhibits linked to their learning in school. Educational visits such as these provide invaluable opportunities for children to deepen their understanding through real-life experiences and inspire curiosity beyond the classroom environment.

Our Year Three children also enjoyed their three-day residential visit to Caythorpe. For many of our youngest Key Stage Two pupils, this represents a real rite of passage and an important opportunity to develop independence, resilience and teamwork skills. During their stay, the children participated in a wide range of outdoor adventure activities including rock climbing, archery, fencing, zip wires, abseiling, campfires and various team games and challenges. Staff were incredibly proud of the enthusiasm, courage and determination shown by all of the children throughout the residential.

We are also looking forward to our upcoming Year Six residential, where pupils will spend a week taking part in a variety of outdoor activities and team-building experiences as they prepare for the next stage of their education. These opportunities help create lasting memories and play an important role in developing children’s confidence and character.

World Earth Day

Earlier this term, we held a whole school writing and artwork project linked to World Earth Day. Parents and carers were invited into school to view the wonderful work produced by children from Reception through to Year Five. It was fantastic to see such thoughtful writing and creative artwork on display across the school, with many pieces reflecting the children’s understanding of environmental issues and caring for the world around them. Special thanks go to our writing leads for organising this successful event.
