Head's Update May 2024
We held our annual May Fayre on Friday 17th May which is always a joyful event! Our wonderful, dedicated PTA volunteers organised an array of stalls, prizes and activities for children and families to enjoy. School staff all led a stall too and it was a lovely community evening with the sun shining. This year we were also treated to entertainment in the form of our two school choirs, Year Two “sing and sign” and the traditional Y6 sword dance where all stars were held aloft successfully! At the time of writing, we did not have the total amount raised but we believe this was in excess of £1,000. All of the PTA’s fundraising supports the school to purchase new resources or fund special experiences for our children.
Like all Year Six children nationwide, our children completed their SATs (Statutory Assessment Tests) last week. Our children tried their best on every paper and we are proud of them for their mature and diligent approach to their revision and to achieving their personal best. Special thanks to the Earls Barton Co-Op who kindly donated £100 worth of breakfast items so that every Year Six was invited to a morning breakfast club before their tests. The chance to eat cereal, toast, croissants, fruit and juices and relax with friends was a lovely start to the day for the children.
Next up for Year Six is the excitement of their residential visit to Durdle Door in Dorset which takes place during the first week in June. This is always a highlight for our children and provides them with lifelong memories from their final days at primary school. During the residential, children have the opportunity to: camp in bell tents; try out lots of outdoor activities from climbing to kayaking; complete a beach hike along the beautiful World Heritage Site coastal path and much more! Having a week away from home also helps the children develop their independence, resilience and personal organisation skills – all vital as they embark on their journey to secondary school.
You may have noticed an array of barriers on our school field – these are to cordon off the holes which have been dug to ascertain the level and position of the services which run under the field. Imminently, the field will begin to be transformed into the new staff car park with works also taking place to create the car park entrance with a dropped kerb on Churchill Road. This will necessitate partial pavement closures, which will be signed. Any inconvenience will be for the shortest possible time and we appreciate the support of the village whilst the works to expand and improve the village primary school is ongoing.
