Head's Update - December 2019
I want to thank everyone involved with our recent class assemblies -they have been fantastic. The children were of course the stars of the show. I was very proud of our children in Primrose and Oak classes whose assemblies showcased the children’s hard work across the full range of our broad curriculum.
We have just held a music festival celebrating string instruments. The children were wonderful and the event was really well supported by mums and dads.
Our recent ‘Curriculum In Action’ morning was really popular with lots of parents seeing how phonics and spelling are taught across the school. I know how much the children enjoyed this and many parents told me how much they had learnt too. Please see our calendar for future ‘Curriculum In Action’ sessions. Please note that in future we will be issuing two tickets per child so we can cope with the numbers!
On a sporting front, a number of Year 4, 5 and 6 children took part in a cross country event, representing our school and all of the children were commended for their efforts and politeness. Huge congratulations to our ‘Hotshots’ basketball team who won a tournament against a large number of other schools. Again, the coaches were really impressed not just with the children’s skills but their behaviour and positive sporting attitude. A small group of Year 2 children took part in new age curling held at the Pemberton centre, all did well and thoroughly enjoyed the event.
A special mention here for our wheelchair rugby group. As you may be aware we hosted an ITV news team earlier in the term. They interviewed staff and children and this was broadcast right across the region! Our children were super stars and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
Since starting here at EBPS I have had the pleasure of working with our wonderful PTA. They work tirelessly to support and fund raise for the school. I joined some of the team at the Co-Op here in Earls Barton to collect a cheque for £3359! This will go along way to improving and updating both the Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 playgrounds and many thanks to the Co-Op for their very generous support. It was also a joy to call in to the Christmas Fayre held at the working Men’s Club where again good sums have been raised.
I am pleased to see the links between our school and Earls Barton library really develop. This will benefit everyone concerned and I know that this will boost our children’s reading.
At the time of writing we are braced for a very busy last few weeks in school. We have the Early Years nativity to look forward to. Our Reception children are doing really well in rehearsals in readiness for the big production! Similarly Year 5 are fine tuning their production which I am sure will be a hit. We are looking forward to having a visiting theatre company who will be performing a panto right here in our school in the last week of term.
We are also making preparations for the Christmas lunch and staff and children will be digging out their favourite Christmas jumpers to help raised funds for ‘Save the Children’ on the 13th December. We have delivered our ‘unique’ Christmas Tree to All Saints Church to take part in the Christmas Tree Festival. All of the children have made an ornament for the tree and I hope you have a chance to go and see it.
We finish the term with Christmas carols sung on the playground and who knows, if we are really lucky, we might even have a visit from Father Christmas himself?
All that is left is to wish you and your family a happy Christmas and wonderful New Year!
