Head's Update - October 2018
Incredibly we are almost at the end of the first term of this academic year as I write and there is so much to tell you about.
You may have noticed an addition to our building whilst walking along Broad Street. Over the summer holidays the Foundation Stage garden has been renovated, thanks to the Co-op community fund and our PTA. It is looking wonderful as you can see and all ready to be fully resourced for the children to increase their outdoor learning
Our school has really benefitted from the generosity of our grandparents too this term. One kindly offered to refill all our outdoor plant pots, whilst another kindly donated a bench so that parents (and grandparents) can sit in a sheltered position whilst waiting for their children. Thank you both for these unexpected acts of kindness.
This year we joined in with the Macmillan ‘World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’, inviting our new parents in Foundation Stage to join us, which we felt would be a good way of them getting to know each other whilst also supporting this wonderful charity. Whilst not as well attended as we had imagined, we hope it is an event we can build on when we support it again next year.
Generosity continues to be the theme as we say a big thank you to families who send in unwanted clothes with their children. Recycling is something we are passionate about and one way we raise awareness of this important issue with our children is to encourage them, and their parents, to use the clothing bank we have on site. Each class has an allocated week each term and house points are awarded to anyone who brings in items for the bank. This is yet another successful PTA initiative, in that it helps the environment, as well as raising funds for the school.
Harvest Festival saw an abundance of produce donated by parents, donated after the event to the Daylight Centre in Wellingborough. Our year 1 children put on a wonderful performance at All Saints Church in the morning, all wearing their mouse headbands and smiling broadly at their parents who were in the congregation. A big thank you to those parents who not only walked to and from the Church with us but also lugged several heavy carrier bags of food there too! In the afternoon, it was the turn of our year 3 children to perform their harvest celebration to their parents. Their theme took the letters of HARVEST and discussed the meaning of harvest through many rearrangements of those letter e.g. STARVE
Raising funds for the school relies on the generosity of our PTA, and our parents of course, but the children love the events that we put on for this purpose. For instance, on our last Inset day we hosted the ‘Home Grown Care Farm’. These lovely people had been working closely with us, and specific children to address confidence and self-esteem issues during the summer term. They brought along a selection of their animals for our families to come along and be ‘hands on’, even getting to paint a pony! The money raised from ticket sales was shared between the school and their charity, and we were very pleased to hand over £234 towards the wonderful work that they do.
As you can see, it has been a fabulous term so far and as busy as always but we have a secret… There is a wonderful surprise awaiting the children over the next few weeks and I can’t wait to share it with you (just not quite yet!)
